Round 2 – All-Mountain Selection, Pick 13
The Katana is my go-to ski for big resorts in the West. Yes, it has a similar waist width as my choice for a powder ski, but if you still believe fat powder-centric skis can’t also be all-mountain skis (at least in the American West), maybe you should take up bowling. With a wood core, sheet of titanium and full rocker throughout (known as Volkl’s Extended Low Profile), the Katana clobbers the crud, shreds the deep, and yet still provides a nice turn on hard snow. Though not the most fun to lug up a bootpack, the Katana is so easy to ski that I don’t mind the extra weight. In short, it makes skiing a simple and fun activity that anyone can do and only gets better with friends. You know, just like bowling.Other Draft Picks By Matt Hansen
