Skiers Choice

Helix

$695.00

Description

Is there such a thing as a one-ski quiver? The Helix may be the only ski you need to buy this year. Winner of multiple editors’ picks, the Helix returns for 2012 slightly modified, with the addition of Liberty’s Stealth Rocker. Light and quick enough for tight trees and technical descents, the Helix’s quadaxial glass layer and torsionally rigid bamboo/poplar laminate core allow for Mach-10 speeds when the terrain opens up. Can one ski do it all? If it’s the Helix, the answer is, “yes.”

Skier's Choice Draft Picks

Hans Ludwig

Round 2 – All-Mountain Selection, Pick 11
There are a ton of good all-arounders these days, but the Helix is one of the few that gets the job done everywhere from the pow to the steeps to the park. After skiing a lot of heavy planks at Powder Week, the Helix’s low weight (thanks to a bamboo laminate core) was a breath of fresh air. Like all twins, it skis short for a given size, but there’s enough beef underfoot to haul arse without fear. Like my park choice, the Armada El Rey, I dig the carefully tapered tail that gives you full switch capability, even park-worthiness, without hang-ups, and the energetic but manageable snap and energy keeps the ski playful and fun in tighter spots.
