Moderation in excess: The quests are truly an in-between boot. They make sense in the Big Sky/Bozeman area where we hike inbounds over rocks in order to ski big terrain, and then hit the sidecountry. Alpine DIN soles are interchangeable with rubber Contagrip soles. With a cuff range of 30 degrees, the walk mode is generous, and since the tech at Grizzly Outfitters screwed a spoiler to the back to stiffen them, they’ve performed well on the downhill. The downside: They’re a little loose for my scrawny ankles and shins.- Emily Stifler
